Xbox 360 Linux Project

By hagrin - Posted on 04 August 2006

The Free 60 Project has a Wiki setup that explains the progress of their project as well as offering insights to the inner workings of the Xbox 360. Of note, their documentation offers some insights as to the design of the Xbox 360. Specifically, Free60.org has the following features listed:

  • The flash is encrypted with a per-box key
  • The key is stored inside the CPU
  • The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU
  • Also inside the CPU is a hypervisor that verifies the running state of the kernel, making sure there is no modification (RAM checksums), else the Xbox360 panics and blows up!

Trade In Your Old Computer Parts for Cash

By hagrin - Posted on 04 August 2006

NewEgg is offering an exchange program that allows anyone to get a free estimate on their used computer equipment, print out a pre-paid shipping sticker and get cash for their old equipment. Very cool program. To me, think of it as a 100% certain Ebay buyer for all your junk you are trying to get rid of.

Pandora Music Service

By hagrin - Posted on 04 August 2006

A new intelligent online personalized radio station web site has been created under the Music Genome Project called Pandora. The extremely intelligent features of this site exist in their ability to match your artist or song search to other songs that have a very similar sound/construction based on a highly in-depth description. They are currently offering a 10 hour free preview which I have utilized and really like. Other than listening to music you already know you like, this search engine and playlist compiler has the nice side effect of exposing you to music in the same genre that you may have never heard of before.
