Anyone have any experience with IKEA beds, drawers, desks etc..?

I have this cousin who is REALLY fat, and she broke her IKEA bed in half....

So if you are really fat don't buy one.

Terrible quality.

Most of their stuff is overpriced and extremely cheaply made. Definitely not recommended. Instead, I would try and see if they have something like a "Bob's Discount Furniture" place near you. http://shop.mybobs.com/ - my parents got a sweat couch from there and it was very cheap, was delivered for free I believe and it's very well made.

We have a Bobs discount furniture here... it's not bad, but a bit more pricey than IKEA.

Thinking about this setup...

I would face the one bureau that is adjacent to the bed and face it towards the bed like the other one. With it against the same wall as the bed, it seems too cluttered.

I'd also get a slightly longer desk and maybe put a hat rack or something mountable in the space behind the door.

What's sad is I was thinking about this while I was visiting my grandma in the hospital and I came up with some more.

1) You need a wall mountable flat screen otherwise you won't have a TV in your room.
2) The other tall closet by the bed should be next to the other, similar closet. Put them side by side and put the smaller drawers next to the bed and you can almost use it as a second night stand.

I haven't had any problem with my Ikea furniture. I love Ikea.

Closet, TV stand (that actually belongs in the kitchen but worked for me), book/DVD Shelves and roommate's bed. (The drawers pull out of the bottom - pretty handy)

Good suggestions.

I may get most of the stuff from ikea. Maybe not the mattress though. I've seen cheaper ones elsewhere and I've heard the Ikea ones aren't that great. Anyone have any suggestions when buying mattresses? Any good stores? Bobs, Jordans, Mattress discounters, Matress giant, sears?

i have an ikea coffee table and several corner tables.. they're **** as hell. the coffee table was only like 20 dollars but it wasn't worth it. i would not recommend any of their products.

This has been my experience as well.

As for the mattress, I ended up getting a full Queen from Sleepy's, but I got a really good deal on mine. They left the mattress near the window and it had this slight water stain on it from condensation so I got a $2k mattress for 400 bucks. Best mattress I have ever slept on.

IMO, a mattress is something you don't skimp on. You spend so much time on it you need to get one that will last a long time and you will get the best night's rest on.

Also, I've always been partial to pushing the bed against a corner in small spaces. They seem so much spacier.

up against the wall so you have something to lean up against, good call.

Went to Ikea today. The real cheap stuff is really flimsy... so I guess I'm gonna have to spend a bit more.

In terms of mattress brands, what seems to be the best? I hear Sealy is top of the line when it comes to latex. Don't know much about any of the others.

As for the bed in the corner, EXCELLENT idea Stag. After you mentioned it, I started to think about it and except when I lived with my ex, the bed was always in the corner. Good call.

Yeah, i have the bed in the corner too usually. I'll have to get the exact dimensions and then we'll see. If I can fit a nightstand between the bed and the wardrobe I can do this:

After researching a bit, Sealy seems to be #1. Now I just have to find a good deal.

I hate how they assign 50 different names to the same mattress at different stores to make shopping around more of a pain. Buying a mattress is almost as annoying as buying a car these days...

See, with you having to wear suits to work, I would think that you will need two of those things if you don't have a closet in your room (which I don't see).

I know that my clothes wouldn't fit in the furniture you have - especially winter wear. I think you will need one more piece.

these are some fancy graphics btw. i haven't been mattress shopping in years but when i did i didn't look brand names really, just jumped onto every bed in the store and went by feel.

I agree... you'll need way more room for clothes. Have you thought about a corner wardrobe?

Ikea has both. The drawer bed is nice and sturdy.
